Abstract

Biomass ash is an agroindustrial waste product that has potential as a fertilizer in agriculture, offering a sustainable alternative to reduce the use of synthetic fertilizers. However, there are few studies on the medium- and long-term management of ash and its effects on correcting aluminum toxicity in soil. In this context, the objective of the research was to evaluate the effects of biomass ash application management on the neutralization of aluminum toxicity over five years of experimental trials on an Oxisol under Paiaguás grass cultivation. The experiment was conducted in the field, in the experimental area of the Federal University of Rondonópolis. The experimental design was randomized blocks with subdivided plots and four replicates, with the main plots being the five doses of biomass ash: 0, 8, 16, 24, and 32 t ha-1. The subplots consisted of two forms of application: incorporated and unincorporated into the soil. The soil in the region is Oxisol. Aluminum content and aluminum saturation were analyzed. The results showed that aluminum and aluminum saturation presented a linear decreasing behavior in all five years of conducting the experiment with the application of biomass ash. Biomass ash promoted the neutralization of aluminum toxicity, especially at doses of 24 and 32 t ha-1. There was no statistical difference between the forms of application. Ash neutralizes aluminum toxicity in the soil and maintains this corrective effect in the medium term.
