The book A Celebration for Life: Animals of the Pantanal and the Rights of Older Persons (Osvaldo Júnior, 2020), published by the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso do Sul, addresses the rights of older persons through a narrative featuring animals from the Pantanal. The work explores respect, intergenerational relationships, wisdom, and different forms of violence, such as neglect, financial exploitation, and aggression. This article analyzes the work from the perspective of historical dialectical analysis, grounded in the categories of totality, mediation, and contradiction, in dialogue with studies on aging, children's literature, and human rights. The discussion relates the narrative corpus to the historical development of the rights of older persons and to the social contradictions that characterize aging in Brazil, considering the relationships between verbal and visual language and the representations of old age constructed by the narrative. The results show that the work offers possibilities for problematizing violence and the rights of older persons, while also mobilizing idealized and generalizing representations of aging that require critical analysis. It is concluded that its formative potential lies in opening possibilities for discussing the diversity of aging experiences, intergenerational relationships, care, and social responsibility, while preserving literature as a space for interpretation and questioning within the field of human rights education.Downloads
