International academic literature has shown that negative perceptions of aging begin as early as childhood. Crăciun and Făgărăşan (2020) note that children often express ambivalent views, oscillating between familial affection and stereotypes of senility. In this context, early educational intervention plays a vital role in changing attitudes toward aging (Whatley; Castel, 2020). Accordingly, this article aims to report on an intergenerational experience in an academic setting linked to a university outreach initiative, the Older Adult Literacy Program (PALPI, acronym in Portuguese). The educational initiative involved an exchange of letters between primary school children and older adults participating in PALPI. The findings showed that the dialogue established among the participants fostered meaningful reflection for all involved. Thus, encouraging intergenerational dialogue grounded in a Freirean theoretical and philosophical framework highlighted the potential of an experience aligned with active citizenship and social transformation. Ultimately, envisioning a better and less ageist world is possible.Downloads
