Abstract

The present work addresses some of the challenges faced by the Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP) in consolidating Sociology as a relevant field of knowledge, both at the university and school levels. To achieve this, we draw upon a few existing literature and interviews with African educators and students. In these emerging nations, higher education and Sociology remain relatively new and lack institutional support. The limited state investment, inadequate infrastructure, academic cooperation difficulties, and linguistic barriers further complicate the process. It is crucial to seek synergy among these countries through the exchange of experiences and international cooperation, including with Brazil. Strengthening the discipline also depends on cooperation between educators and students in a collective effort to enhance its academic presence.
