Analysis and mapping of legal reserve areas on rural properties in the Amazon-Cerrado transition zone in the rural environmental registry of Bico do Papagaio/Tocantins

The Bico do Papagaio region, located in the northernmost part of the state of Tocantins, between the Araguaia and Tocantins rivers, encompasses 25 municipalities in an area of approximately 15,000 km². Rural properties in this region are subject to the obligation to maintain Legal Reserve Areas (LRA), as established by the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR). This study aims to analyze and map the LRA registered in CAR, focusing on rural properties located in the transition zone between the Amazon and Cerrado biomes in the Bico do Papagaio. Compliance with legal requirements, along with an exploratory study that included a bibliographic review of CAR regulations. Additionally, georeferenced information was used to identify transition areas between biomes, and remote sensing techniques and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were employed to map LRA on rural properties. The results revealed significant deficits in the Legal Reserve Area in several municipalities in the Bico do Papagaio region, indicating non-compliance with legal regulations for environmental protection. Thus, there is an urgent need for effective measures to promote land regularization and sustainable environmental management in the region. It is concluded that a joint effort among the government, civil society, and the private sector is essential to address these challenges and ensure the protection of natural resources and environmental sustainability in the Bico do Papagaio region and throughout the country.Downloads
