Menopause is a transitional phase in a women's life, characterized by a reduction in estrogen and progesterone production, which triggers symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, irritability, and metabolic changes, affecting quality of life. Due to the adverse effects of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), interest in natural alternatives has increased, such as mulberry (Morus spp.), which is rich in phytoestrogens and antioxidant compounds that may assist in hormonal regulation and protection against oxidative stress. This study aimed to analyze the efficacy of mulberry as a therapeutic alternative for relieving menopausal symptoms through an integrative literature review. The databases Periódicos Capes, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Virtual Health Library (VHL) were consulted, including studies published between 2019 and 2024 on the effects of Morus nigra and Morus alba, as well as research on bioavailability, safety, and innovative formulations. The results highlight that Morus species contain flavonoids, anthocyanins, and alkaloids with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and phytoestrogenic activities. Regular consumption of the plant, in the form of teas, capsules, or formulations such as gummies and mucoadhesive films, has shown benefits in reducing symptoms like hot flashes, insomnia, and mood swings. Additionally, mulberry exhibits antiglycation activity, which may help prevent metabolic complications associated with aging. Despite the promising results, the literature still lacks controlled clinical trials and standardized dosages, making it necessary to conduct more robust research to consolidate the use of Morus spp. in clinical practice.Downloads
