Subjection of the masses and popular appeal: the growth of contemporary demagogy

This article aimds at comparing the use of demagogic discourse between the 2012 and 2016 United States Presidential Election. The investigation follows specific electoral discourses as a means to achieve such goal. Through an analysis of the discourse of Elizabeth Warren and the principal discussions in the presidential elections of 2012 between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, and the 2016’s between Donald J. Trump and Hillary Clinton, it is possible to delimitate the level of influence of the language in the debates and the presence or absence of demagogy. This investigation has as its method the phenomenological, and makes use of the technic of bibliographical research, as well as of document collection and analysis as a means to verify the discourses in point. The conclusion finds a growth of demagogy from one election to the other.Descargas
