This text aims to understand the historical context of the creation of the School of Agricultural Initiation in Salinas/MG (EIAS) starting in 1953. The objective was to analyze the narrative of the first director, Abdênago Lisboa, about this process. The main material for the analysis was the book Octacilíada (1992), written by Lisboa, used as a primary source document. The research methods involved a historical analysis, documentary research, and cross-referencing data with other sources, such as newspapers and official documents. The analysis demonstrated the relevance of Abdênago Lisboa's memorial-writing to institutional history. However, the cross-referencing of sources highlights the existence of conflicting narratives about the founding process of the EIAS. It is concluded that the school’s trajectory is complex and requires documentary critique to be considered in a broad and plural way. The work reiterates the need to explore different voices that compose the history of professional education in the region, given that there is little research in the field.Downloads
