INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

About the editorial process

The material submitted for publication is initially analyzed by the Editorial Board of Revista Sítio Novo, with the assistance of the Editor-in-Chief and/or Assistant Editor, regarding the adequacy of the texts to the publication standards and other procedures relevant to the process of analysis and approval of manuscripts, in accordance with the guidelines provided in the template models available on the journal's website. If deemed appropriate, the material is forwarded to expert reviewers in the relevant field, without author identification, who are members of the Scientific Editorial Committee, which consists of expert reviewers holding a doctoral degree or recognized expertise in a specific field.

Exceptionally, in cases where the Scientific Editorial Committee does not comply with the deadline established by the Editorial Board, ad hoc reviewers with at least a master's degree may be invited to review articles and technical notes submitted to the journal.

The Editorial Board will ensure that, whenever possible, reviewers assigned to each article are affiliated with institutions different from those of the authors.

Manuscripts submitted for publication in Revista Sítio Novo will be forwarded by the Editorial Board to reviewers within a maximum period of 60 days from receipt.

Reviewers will have 8 days to accept the review invitation and, after accepting it, a maximum of 21 days to evaluate the manuscript. After this period, members of the Editorial Board may replace the reviewer.

The journal adopts a double-blind review process. However, authors may opt for openness in the peer-review process by completing the Open Science Compliance Form. Openness will be granted if the reviewer agrees, as indicated in the manuscript evaluation form.

Based on the reviews of at least two (2) reviewers and its own analysis, the Editorial Board recommends acceptance or rejection of the manuscript.

Rejected manuscripts will be returned to the authors. Requests for reconsideration of reviews unfavorable to publication or requests for evaluation by other reviewers will not be accepted.

Other information regarding the submission and publication of articles and technical notes is contained in the Author Guidelines, available on the journal's website through the template models.

Similarity Check (Plagiarism)

All manuscripts submitted to the journal undergo similarity checking through the platform provided by Crossref, with the purpose of identifying possible cases of plagiarism.

The report generated by the platform is analyzed by the Editorial Board, the Editor-in-Chief, or the Assistant Editor. If evidence of plagiarism or inconsistencies in the indication of references are found, the author will be asked to make the necessary corrections within a specified deadline in order to proceed with the editorial process.

If the manuscript presents a high similarity percentage or if the requested corrections are not implemented, the manuscript will be rejected. This procedure aims to ensure the originality of the content and maintain ethical standards in scientific publishing.

The manuscript may be rejected immediately, regardless of the stage of the editorial process, if plagiarism or self-plagiarism is proven.

Open Science Compliance

By completing the Open Science Compliance Form, which must be included with the manuscript submission, authors are requested to inform: (a) whether the manuscript is a preprint and, if so, where it is available; (b) whether data, software code, and other materials underlying the manuscript text are properly cited and referenced; and (c) whether they accept options for openness in the peer-review process.

In addition, the journal permits and encourages the deposit of manuscripts in institutional repositories and other scientific data repositories, with the aim of promoting the open and accessible dissemination of knowledge. Prior deposit of the manuscript in repositories does not prevent submission for publication, in accordance with Open Science guidelines and ensuring the visibility and sharing of scientific content.

Languages

Revista Sítio Novo accepts submissions in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, written in accordance with standards for the preparation of scientific papers and that have not been submitted to or published in another journal and/or periodical, as declared by the authors.

For submissions in English and Spanish, it is recommended that the text be reviewed by a professional fluent in the language and familiar with scientific terminology and texts.

Other information

Scientific works will be accepted in the following categories: Scientific Article and Technical Note.

For the purposes of these regulations, the following definitions apply:

Scientific Article – material based on an original scientific hypothesis that has not yet been clarified, which is validated or not through experimentation or theoretical models, and grounded in an established scientific method, with appropriate statistical planning and discussion supported by scientific argumentation.

Technical Note – material describing a technique, device, new species, or observations and data collections limited to non-repeatable experiments or other unique situations. It is generally shorter than a scientific article and does not need to follow the classical structure, but it must comply with the same scientific rigor as a Scientific Article and has the same value as a publication.

Manuscripts must comply with the editorial standards established in the Author Guidelines and with the provisions of the template models available on the journal's website.

Articles that do not meet all requirements will be rejected.

Publication of manuscripts is not remunerated, and their total or partial reproduction is permitted provided that the source is cited.

The content of published manuscripts is the sole responsibility of their authors and does not necessarily reflect the views of IFTO.

Original manuscripts may be adapted for editorial purposes to comply with the standards of Revista Sítio Novo.

At the time of submission, two (2) versions of the manuscript must be submitted, according to the template models:

i) Scientific Work (Scientific Article or Technical Note) – the first version must omit the authors' names and the footnote, and must be submitted as the version for evaluation;

ii) Scientific Work (Scientific Article or Technical Note) – the second version must include all such information and must be submitted as a supplementary document.

The author(s) must acknowledge that it is not permitted to submit a new manuscript, either individually or in co-authorship, for evaluation while another submission is in progress or while a manuscript has been published in the most recent issue. In the latter case, at least one year must have elapsed since the date of publication.

The manuscript must follow the instructions provided in the template models available on the journal's website and the guidelines below.

MANUSCRIPT ORGANIZATION

Formatting

The article text must be prepared using Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer; graphs must be prepared using programs compatible with Microsoft Excel or LibreOffice Calc; and images must be in the following formats: Figures (GIF) and Photos (JPEG). The material must not exceed 2.0 MB.

The manuscript must be prepared on A4 paper, 210 × 290 mm, using Arial font, regular style, size 12, with single spacing throughout the article and a 1 cm paragraph indentation.

Margins must be: 3 cm on the left and top, and 2 cm on the right and bottom. Quotations longer than three lines, page numbers, notes, captions, and sources of illustrations and tables must be in size 10.

Page numbers must be placed in the footer, according to the template, without altering the structure provided in the template.

Title

Only the first letter of the article title should be capitalized, except in the case of proper names. Avoid abbreviations and scientific names in the title. A scientific name should only be used when strictly necessary and must appear in the keywords, abstract, and other sections when necessary.

The title and subtitle, if any, must appear on the opening page separated by a colon, centered on the page, in size 12 bold font, and contain no more than fifteen (15) words.

The numerical footnote marker, derived from the title, must provide information on the nature of the work, when it originates from a thesis or dissertation, and references to collaborating institutions.

In the titles of the other sections (abstract, introduction, etc.), only the first letter should be capitalized; they must be in bold and left-aligned.

Authors

Full names must be provided, without abbreviations, with initial letters capitalized, one after another on separate lines.

The last surname of each author must be followed by an Arabic numeral in superscript, corresponding to the author's affiliation information.

As a footnote on the first page, the following information must be provided for each author: academic degree and awarding institution; institutional affiliation and institution; City – State, Country; corresponding author's email address; as well as ORCID and Lattes Curriculum information (see the template on the first page footer).

A maximum of five (5) authors per article will be accepted. If this limit is exceeded, the authors must provide evidence that the research was conducted in different regions.

At the time of submission, two (2) versions of the manuscript must be submitted: the first version must omit the authors' names and footnote and must be submitted as the version for evaluation; the second version must contain all this information and must be submitted as a supplementary document.

Along with the submission, authors must submit the supplementary documents required for manuscript submission, which are available on the journal's website: CRediT Statement, Statements on Conflict of Interest, Research Ethics Procedures, and Use of Artificial Intelligence, and the Open Science Compliance Form.

Introduction

The word Introduction must be written with lowercase letters except for the initial letter, in bold and left-aligned. It should be brief but sufficient to clarify the problem addressed or the research hypothesis(es), with a maximum of two pages, including citations from specific and up-to-date literature, and should conclude with a clear statement of the objective consistent with that described at the beginning of the Abstract.

Citations and notes must comply with current ABNT standards.

Materials and Methods

The heading Materials and Methods must be left-aligned, in bold, with lowercase letters except for the initial letters. The content should preferably be organized chronologically.

It must include a description of the location, date, and experimental design, as well as sufficient information to understand the results and allow the work to be replicated by another researcher.

Avoid unnecessary details and extensive descriptions of commonly used techniques. When indispensable, subheadings should be in bold, with lowercase letters except for the initial letter, and placed at the left margin of the page.

Results and Discussions

The term Results and Discussions must be in bold, with lowercase letters except for the initial letter, and left-aligned.

It must contain a concise presentation of the data obtained. All data presented in Tables and/or Figures must be discussed and should not simply be repeated in the body of the text; rather, they should be discussed in relation to those presented by other authors.

Tables, graphs, and figures may be interspersed throughout the text immediately after the passage in which they are first cited, so that their presentation follows a natural reading sequence. Alternatively, they may be presented as an appendix when there are many of them or when they occupy more than one page, which could hinder readability. They must not exceed the margins or be presented in landscape orientation.

Avoid the use of abbreviated variable and treatment names. Data not presented in the manuscript cannot be discussed. Statements that cannot be supported by data obtained in the study itself or by other cited studies should not be made. New findings should be compared with previously established knowledge.

Regardless of the type of illustration, it must be preceded by its designation (photograph, graph, figure, image, flowchart, plan, among others), followed by its sequential number in Arabic numerals, a dash, and the respective title.

Immediately after the illustration, the source consulted must be indicated, even when it is the authors' own production, in accordance with current ABNT standards.

Tables must comply with the Tabular Presentation Standards of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Final Considerations

Only the first letter of the words Final Considerations should be capitalized, and the heading must be in bold and left-aligned.

The final considerations must be concise and consistent with the objectives and data presented in the manuscript. They must not merely summarize the results, but rather present the new findings of the research.

References

References must comply with current ABNT standards. The heading References must be left-aligned, in bold, with lowercase letters except for the initial letter.

References must be prepared with single spacing, aligned with the left margin of the text, and separated from one another by one blank line with single spacing.

References must be from current sources and journals: at least 50% of the references must have been published within the last five (5) years and must include journal articles. They must contain the works cited in the text.
