The formation of political identity among high school students at the Federal Institute of Brasília

The construction of identity occurs through lived and shared experiences among young people in school community and between them and other members of society in a global context. From this understanding, this study analyzes the process of political identity formation among students enrolled in the integrated technical high school programs at the Federal Institute of Brasília (IFB), São Sebastião Campus, through an exploratory study of their political opinion. To this end, we observed and measured changes in their political opinion over the three years of the course, investigating their understanding of politics and identifying curricular and extracurricular influences in this process. The methodology includes the application and analysis of questionnaires with a rating scale to measure opinions, conducted between 2018 and 2023, complemented by a focus group approach. The results indicate a possible trend of young people shifting toward more left-wing positions over the years, with consistent differences related to gender, corroborating findings from international studies.Downloads
